Buoyancy Barge

Buoyancy Barge is a performance space designed to bring public awareness to the barge industry. An object as massive as a barge is able to float due to buoyancy, the force that directly opposes the weight of an immersed object. Weight distribution within a barge directly affects river wake which leads to shoreline erosion. The Buoyancy Barge includes panels that open and close in a mesmerizing show to shift the weight of the vessel while passengers are aboard. The project serves as illuminating art that the public can visit and become a part of with the hope that they leave questioning how industry has altered the once natural system of the river.
